Types of ground in Belt
In the municipality of Bande, the dominant subsoil is mainly composed of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, with occasional occurrences of hard overconsolidated clays and marls, as well as slates and schists. This geological setting provides a generally competent foundation for shallow foundations, as the predominant materials are medium to coarse grained and show favourable bearing capacity. The clays and marls, being hard and overconsolidated, represent a smaller fraction and usually offer sufficient stability for direct supports, provided that their local condition is verified by means of a detailed geotechnical study.
With regard to seismicity, with 41 events over the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3, the level is considered moderate, so seismic risk is not a relevant constraint for structural design in the area. There is no evidence of karst processes, and the absence of a clayey subsoil eliminates the risk of ground expansiveness. Accordingly, the main geotechnical consideration in Bande is the correct identification of any potential local zone with less competent materials, without requiring specific measures related to seismicity or expansiveness.
