Types of ground in Ayegui/Aiegi
In Ayegui/Aiegi, the predominant subsoil is composed of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which occupy a large part of the territory. These materials generally exhibit a medium to high bearing capacity, which favours direct foundation solutions in most cases. However, the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts introduces a potential risk of dissolution, especially in areas where these layers crop out or are found at shallow depth, as well as a cautious approach regarding nearby zones with masses of water and fine soils such as sands and silts, which may reduce ground stability depending on their local distribution.
Seismic activity in the area is high, with more than 150 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude exceeding 5.2, so the consideration of seismicity is essential in any geotechnical study and structural design. In addition, there is the possibility of karst development due to the presence of gypsum and evaporitic salts in the subsoil; this situation must be investigated in detail before defining the foundation solution. The absence of an alluvial clayey subsoil rules out expansivity risks, but the main constraint for the development will be the control of karst cavities and the seismic effect in the design of the foundation.
