In Avinyó, sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate as the substrate, with a very sporadic presence of fine sands and silts. These materials usually exhibit good compactness and involve an adequate bearing capacity, making them favourable for the design of shallow foundations. The low proportion of finer lithologies implies that, except in very localised points, the presence of soft or compressible soils is not relevant. The impregnation of generally impermeable formations limits infiltration, although some activity of superficial aquifers may be generated in specific areas.

With regard to additional geotechnical aspects, seismicity in Avinyó is very low, with maximum moderate values (Mmax 2.8) and only a single documented event over three decades, so its influence on structural design is practically insignificant. The non-clayey substratum rules out any risk associated with expansivity. The surrounding environment rules out karst processes and there are no critical factors such as dissolution of salts or surface muds. Therefore, the main constraint in the geotechnical study will be to validate the homogeneity of the predominant substrate before the design of the foundations.
