In Ariza, the subsurface is dominated by calcareous materials such as limestones, dolomites and marbles, accompanied by compact gravels and sands in significant proportions. These strata generally provide a good bearing capacity for shallow foundations, thanks to their stiffness and strength. However, in areas where sandstones and conglomerates predominate, the response to structural loads may vary slightly, although in most cases the foundation design performs well on these ground conditions.

From a geotechnical point of view, Ariza shows notable seismicity— with 68 recorded events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 4.8— which requires strictly taking the seismic parameters into account in the structural calculation. In addition, the presence of karstification in the calcareous formations requires a thorough check for the development of voids or dissolutions before carrying out the foundation. Although expansive clays are not predominant, their possible presence must be considered; however, the main constraint for the geotechnical study is assessing the risk of karst and meeting the earthquake-resistant requirements in the project.
