Types of ground in Ares
In the municipality of Ares, the predominant ground is made up of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which represents a rock substrate with very low permeability. This type of material generally shows good bearing capacity, providing suitable conditions for the shallow foundation of buildings, although there may be locally fractured areas or areas with superficial aquifers that require specific assessment. The low degree of permeability means that there are usually no significant problems due to differential settlement caused by variations in soil moisture.
Seismicity in Ares is very low, with only around 5 events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1,9, so it does not represent a relevant constraint for structural design. Likewise, the non-clayey substrate eliminates the risk of expansiveness in the soils, contributing to the stability of foundations. Consequently, the main factor to consider is the continuity and quality of the rock mass, paying particular attention to any altered zones or aquifers at the surface.
