In Arafo, the dominant substratum for development consists of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, representing more than 80% of the soils detected. These formations generally provide an adequate and homogeneous bearing capacity, thus facilitating direct foundation solutions for residential and industrial developments. The igneous soils, present in a secondary way, reinforce ground stability, while permeability allows the formation of perched aquifers, which requires attention to avoid interference with shallow foundations.

Seismicity in Arafo is very low, with only 7 recorded events over the last 30 years and a low maximum magnitude (Mmax 2.8), which minimises the need for additional structural requirements due to seismic risk. There is no evidence of karst processes or of expansive clays or soluble salts that would alter ground stability. The main limiting factor in Arafo for geotechnical studies is the appropriate identification of permeable contacts, which can affect hydraulic behaviour beneath the foundations.
