Types of ground in Ansoáin/Antsoain
In Ansoáin/Antsoain, the most representative soils are the formations of limestones, dolomites and marbles, with a dominant presence. These materials provide a competent substrate for foundations, normally characterised by a high bearing capacity. Intervals of fine sands and silts may also be found, which require additional caution as their stiffness and permeability may be affected by the presence of subsurface water. The occasional presence of gravels and compact sands locally improves the bearing capacity provided they are found in a dense state.
Seismic activity in the municipality is very low, with only one recorded event in the last 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, so it does not constitute a relevant constraint in structural design. As regards expansiveness, although clays are present, they are not expansive in nature or are dispersed within non-clayey matrices, minimising the potential risk of secondary movements due to swelling. Thus, the main focus should be on the accurate characterisation of the stiffness in granular soils and the identification of occasional water-bearing levels, which may influence the choice of the most suitable foundation.
