Types of ground in Andosilla
At Andosilla, the soils are predominantly composed of gypsum, anhydrite, salts, fine sands and silts, together with the occasional presence of gravels and compact sands. This type of substrate usually implies good bearing capacity in the denser layers, although the frequent occurrence of evaporitic materials, such as gypsum and salts, requires a detailed assessment of the risk of dissolution, particularly in deep foundation projects. The high overall permeability favours drainage and may influence stability positively, provided it is not affected by dissolution or localised subsidence phenomena.
The area shows very low seismicity, with only 4 events in 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, so this factor is not a conditioning constraint in structural design. However, the existence of karst processes associated with gypsum and dolomites makes it necessary to carefully verify the presence of cavities or subsurface instabilities before proceeding with any foundation. In addition, since it is a non-clayey substrate, the risk of expansivity is ruled out. The main geotechnical constraint in Andosilla lies in possible dissolutions and the development of karst at depth; these aspects must be considered as a priority in any geotechnical study.
