In Amurrio, limestone, dolomites and marbles predominate, accounting for more than 70% of the substrate, complemented by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch. This geological setting generally provides good bearing capacity conditions, facilitating the execution of shallow foundations in most cases. However, the overall low permeability of these formations requires particular attention to the possibility of shallow aquifers, which may influence the selection and design of foundation solutions.

The recorded seismicity, with close to 200 events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 4, indicates significant seismic activity that must be taken into account in structural design. In addition, the presence of carbonated materials requires verifying the existence of karst processes before founding, given the risk of voids. As the substrate is not clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out, with karst control and seismicity being the determining factors when addressing a geotechnical study in the area.
