Types of ground in Alosno
In the municipality of Alosno, the dominant geotechnical subsoil is made up of slates and schists, accounting for more than 90% of the local ground. These materials are characteristically impermeable or have very low permeability, which may lead to the occasional presence of shallow aquifers in low-lying topographic areas. These lithologies provide an adequate bearing capacity for shallow foundations, but require special consideration with regard to drainage and outflow, due to their limited infiltration.
Seismicity in Alosno is very low, with only 3 events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.1, which minimises the influence of seismic risk on structural design. There is no risk of expansivity, since the subsoil is not clayey, and the absence of karstification eliminates concerns related to subsidence due to dissolution. As the main conditioning factor, the impermeable behaviour of the subsoil must be assessed, particularly in the management of groundwater and surface water beneath the foundation area.
