In Alguaire, deposits of sandstone, conglomerates and flysch predominate: rock materials with good bearing capacity and consolidation, which favour the execution of shallow, direct foundations in most cases. Crushed gravel and compacted sands, which occur only occasionally, also provide favourable conditions, although it is advisable to check the density and local groundwater level, due to the variable permeability. Clayey and marly formations are very rare, and when they do occur they are usually overconsolidated and show low compressibility, so the risk of differential settlement is limited. Nevertheless, the presence of specific water bodies can noticeably alter the bearing capacity, particularly for shallow foundations.

Seismicity in Alguaire is very low, with a single recorded event in 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.5, which rules out the need to adopt special measures against seismic movements in structural design. Although there are subordinate expansive clays, their low frequency and their location in climatic zones without significant deficit minimise the potential for problems due to volumetric swelling. The main geotechnical factor will be the local characterisation of the density and groundwater level, especially in areas close to water bodies or granular soils; in general, it is a favourable environment for building from a geotechnical point of view.
