Types of ground in Alfaro
In Alfaro, soils of compacted gravels and sands predominate, followed by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which provides a favourable subsoil for foundation design due to its high bearing capacity and low compressibility. Fine sands and silts occur only occasionally, while the presence of water masses is rare; however, extensive and highly permeable aquifers characterise the area, allowing good drainage and reducing the risks associated with saturated soils.
Seismic activity is moderate, with 18 events over the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude (Mmax) of 3.3, which implies a low seismic risk for structural design. There are no predominant clayey soils, thereby ruling out the risk of expansivity.
