In Alcántara, slates and schists predominate, constituting almost 88% of the substrate, accompanied to a lesser extent by granites, gneisses and other igneous rocks. These soils are known for their high strength and stable behaviour, which favours an adequate bearing capacity for conventional shallow foundations. However, the impermeability of these formations implies that surface horizons may form with variable moisture, especially in areas of local aquifers, which should be taken into account when selecting the foundation type and in terms of protection against moisture.

The municipality shows very low seismicity, with only 6 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3.5, so the seismic risk is negligible for structural design. As it is a non-clayey substrate, the risk of expansiveness is ruled out, allowing conventional foundations without significant geotechnical constraints.
